Membership Rules of the International Biomedical Research Alliance Network (IBRA-N)

SECTION 1: Overview

In alignment with our mission to invest in and accelerate the development of future leaders in biomedical research with a global impact, we have established the International Biomedical Research Alliance Network (IBRA-N) to connect promising and established leaders in international biomedical research and related support organizations committed to advancing their success. IBRA-N provides a platform for collaboration, mentorship, and resource sharing to leverage existing and developing skills and resources to further our collective goal of empowering the next generation of biomedical leaders.

SECTION 2: Oversight and Leadership

IBRA-N is overseen by the Network and Programs Committee (NPC) of IBRA which is responsible for the nomination, review, and recommendation for approval by the IBRA Board of Directors for new members to the IBRA-N as described in the Procedure for Nomination of IBRA-N Members. The NPC also approves and facilitates the activities of IBRA-N including networking, career development, and fundraising events.

SECTION 3: Memberships

The IBRA-N shall consist of four classes of members: trainee, active, honorary, and organizational. All Members must agree to pay relevant annual dues to gain access to the benefits of their class of membership, and agree to abide by the terms of the IBRA-N Professional Code of Conduct (see Appendix)

(a) Trainee Membership

Open to graduate (PhD, MD, MS, DBA, MBA, DDS, JD) or postgraduate (resident, clinical fellow, postdoctoral fellow) trainees with a manifested interest in international biomedical research and related activities.

(b) Active Membership

Open to qualified mid-career professionals (post-training, who are no longer in residency, fellowship, or a degree-granting program) who have established a record of international biomedical accomplishments by publishing scholarly materials, creating or supporting companies, or holding positions of policy or executive leadership. The NMC may invite into active membership other individuals who have made substantial contributions to international biomedical research.

(c) Honorary Membership

Invitation-only membership for distinguished individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of international biomedical research. Honorary members shall have all the rights and privileges of active membership.

(d) Organizational Membership

Open to organizations nominated and approved by the IBRA-N due to involvement in facilitating or conducting international biomedical research or innovation, with a requirement of annual payment of dues and/or other substantial in-kind contributions in support of the purposes and activities of IBRA-N. Employees and members of organizations that join IBRA-N will be eligible to apply for individual membership into IBRA-N.

SECTION 4: Dues

Dues (see Table) are payable annually on the date of the anniversary of the individual’s or organization’s membership. Memberships auto-renew annually using the default payment method that was used for membership initiation. Cancellations of membership must occur 30 days prior to the anniversary date of the individual’s or organization’s membership to avoid auto-renew charges. The NMC may consider any member whose  payment method is expired and/or dues are in arrears, ‘member not in good standing,’ resulting in limited access to membership benefits. The NMC has the right to terminate the membership of any member whose dues are in arrears or whom the NMC deems to have breached the IBRA-N Professional Code of Conduct
