The April 4, 2023, Lasker Lessons in Leadership featured Harvey J. Alter, M.D., Scientist Emeritus, Transfusion Medicine Department, NIH Clinical Center. Dr. Alter received the 2000 Lasker Award and the 2020 Nobel Prize for the discovery of the virus that causes Hepatitis C and the development of screening methods that reduced the risk of blood transfusion-associated hepatitis in the U.S. from 30% in 1970 to virtually zero in 2000.
